Support for young carers

What support is available?

Our mission is to improve the lives of children and young people (aged 8-18) who are caring for a member of their family and live in Hampshire. We do that by offering a combination of the following services directly to young carers, depending on their individual need.

Respite and recreational activities

We offer a diverse range of clubs, group activities, workshops, outings and trips both in term-time and during the holidays.  This brings together communities of young carers to have fun and time out from caring.  It allows young carers to connect with others that understand or experience similar situations and also gives opportunities to meet more young people from across a larger area than they would normally engage with. This reduces stress, loneliness and isolation and improves self-efficacy and fosters a sense of belonging.

Relevant and tailored wellbeing support

We offer a key life skills programme focusing on improving health outcomes, wellbeing and coping with their role as a Young Carer, or can provide 1:1 mentoring in times of crisis.  This includes advice and guidance and links to signposting to other support that would be available ie HYA counselling, or family support.  This early intervention at critical times results in increased confidence, self-esteem, resilience and identifies and address health inequalities.

Some of the projects across Hampshire may offer additional services to above, see their individual web-sites for more information.

It was great the groups were split so I could be myself and be more independent. I knew someone already and then made a new friend.
